Peter Breakwell took the No Drama entry Lucas to the win in the $40,000 Menlo Grand Prix, one of only two double-clear rounds over Michael Roy Curtis’ course. The 10-year-old Hessian gelding is only 15.3 hands, and Breakwell had worried that this might be to his detriment in the big classes.
“There was a concern early on that he wouldn’t be able to jump some of the bigger courses,” said Breakwell, a trainer in Portola Valley, Calif. “Since then he’s proved that he can do it.”
