Competing at IHSA Nationals is a feat in itself between the nervous excitement of being at one of the biggest competitions for college riders all year and the task of immediately adapting to a catch-ride while staying perfectly poised. If you were watching Allison “Alli" Bienas in the novice equitation division yesterday, you might have noticed she was navigating yet another challenge—one that no one else had to.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association hasn’t yet revealed a final decision on the future of equestrian within the organization, but another college is dropping the sport in response to the uncertainty.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association is in the process of deciding the fate of equestrian as a sport within the organization.

University of South Carolina head coach Boo Major announced on July 25 the hiring of Hillary Dobbs as the Gamecocks’ new hunt seat coach. Dobbs replaces Carol Gwin, who was named head coach at Southern Methodist University (Texas) in June.

Emory & Henry College announced June 17 that the college will take over management and ownership of the Virginia Intermont College equestrian teams and equine science program. Virginia Intermont closed at the end of this year’s spring semester due to financial and accreditation woes.The program is now called Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College, and the equestrian center will remain at its current location in Bristol, Va., about 20 minutes from Emory & Henry’s main campus in Emory, Va.
