US Equestrian Federation leaders started a candid conversation with members on drugs and the show ring in the first of seven town hall meetings.

A pair of farriers and three equine veterinarians earned hall of fame recognition during induction ceremonies during the recent 10th annual International Hoof-Care Summit. These five individuals were honored for outstanding careers in equine hoof care during the event, held Jan. 29-Feb. 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Two New Jersey Horse farms, one in Gladstone and one in Pompton Plains, are under quarantine after a horse at the Gladstone farm tested positive for the neurologic form of equine herpesvirus-1.

The infected horse attended a horse show in Newburgh, N.Y., on Jan. 12. After he tested positive, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture traced his movements and found 11 horses in New Jersey had been exposed. None of the other horses have shown signs of the disease.

The days of shady salesmen hawking miracle potions like colic drench and spavin cures with questionable ingredients are long in the past. Or are they?
