La Biosthetique-Sam FBW has been removed from rider Michael Jung’s barn just five weeks after winning the individual gold medal at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (Ky.), according to European equestrian website www.sms-pferdenews.de.
Our columnist believes U.S. eventing will have to combat complacency on multiple fronts to have any chance at a team medal in two years.
As I sat on a plane coming home from Lexington, Ky., I thought about how everyone that I talked to had something to say about the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. They loved it, they thought it was too expensive, they were proud of their U.S. athletes. And yes, after the Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team failed to medal, some were disappointed with us.

There were scarcely any words to describe German rider Michael Jung’s individual gold-medal performance with La Biosthetique-Sam FBW. He finished just as he started the weekend—in first place on a 33.0.
But William Fox-Pitt of Great Britain, who finished 9 points behind Jung for silver, said it best: “It was Michael Jung: 1, and the rest: nowhere.”
Irish rider Patricia Ryan’s horse Fernhill Clover Mist, who was eliminated by officials after bolting uncontrollably during cross-country at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games yesterday, Oct. 2, sustained a major hock injury according William Micklem.
After Kim Severson did not present Tipperary Liadhnan at this morning's eventing first horse inspection at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, U.S. Equestrian Federation officials announced that Karen O'Connor and Mandiba, who were slated to compete as individuals, will now ride on the Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team.

There will be four fewer horses starting the eventing competition at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games today.
The field of 84 starters reduced to 80 after U.S.-based Mexican rider Escipion Mendivil’s horse Azteca was spun. Mendivil, who was slated to compete as an individual, was the last rider of the day to present, and the ground jury failed to accept his 12-year-old Thoroughbred gelding after seeing it jog twice.
The U.S. Equestrian Federation has withdrawn Tipperary Liadhnan from the eventing competition at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games before the Horse Inspection, today, Sept. 29.
Tipperary Liadhnan was to be ridden by Kim Severson from Keene, Va.
The 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse was withdrawn for veterinary reasons.
I’m glad to say the horses had a better trip than some of the riders!
After two hours of sleep we left Georgia, and the flies, in a three-trailer caravan with vet Brendan Furlong following close behind.
We arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park around 8.30 a.m. After various security checks the horses were unloaded and in their stalls by 9:15. Dougie Hannum had done the most amazing job of preparing our barn. He repainted all our stalls with flags, banners and trunks galore, so no one can miss the Americans when they pass.
