Blogger Jennie Brannigan

I sat yesterday reading Sinead Halpin’s latest Chronicle blog and was quite impressed and inspired by what she wrote. My heart broke for her when I found out a few days ago that she lost her dad suddenly. I can't imagine what she's going through. The timing of reading that and then her dad passing is just devastating.

I know it's been quite a while since I've blogged, and to be honest there are so many things I'd like to share with you all that it's a little bit overwhelming to think about where to start.

It's hard to say what the most special part of a memory is when every part of it is something you’ll remember for forever... And it's great when it's one that memory is a good one, but with horses and life there are a fair few that are the other variety... The not-so-good ones. They say you need to experience those bad ones to appreciate the good, and I would say from my personal experience thus far in life that that statement is true.

I was lucky, at a young age, to get a job working under show jumper Susie Hutchison, a woman who had a profound effect on my riding career and life.

I remember going to work for her at Indio, Thermal, Showpark and a lot of other venues in Southern California. I very honestly was completely out of my depth and at first quite overwhelmed by the experiences, but I grew to love the scene of it all and truly enjoyed jumping the young horses for her.

Well, things have really been happening at TPF lately, with the big move back home to Pennsylvania. And in the meantime, we competed at The Fork Horse Trials, which was, in keeping with the current theme of my spring, a good and bad weekend for me!

I ran Indie in the intermediate, and I really have to say, with how he started this spring—a little green and rough—I am beyond impressed with how he’s improved. He really stepped up to the plate at The Fork this past weekend.

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve gotten back on my computer and updated my blog for everyone at the Chronicle.

The action in Aiken has obviously been in full gear here for a while, and it’s been a real rollercoaster for me to say the least. Some ups and downs have happened since I’ve been here with the TPF crew, as No Objection got hurt in the field and is having to have some time off. It really bummed me out, but what can you do? He still has a chance of getting to the Bromont CCI*** (Quebec) this spring, so we'll see.

Well, the past week has been a bit of an exciting one for me, as I had some "unforeseen complications," to put it mildly, during what was supposed to be a routine trip to Ocala, Fla., and then on to Wellington for the PRO DerbyCross.

Well, things are starting to heat up here at True Prospect Farm, as we’re getting ready to head down to Aiken.

I was lucky to have a clinic recently with show jumper Lane Clarke, who flew out to help me and all of my amazing students last weekend as a good kick-off to the 2012 season. We were all impressed with the level of enthusiasm and attention to detail that Lane had when coaching all of us, and he helped me on all my horses, from a 4-year-old up to my advanced horses.

I had an interesting week down in Wellington, Fla., for my winter vacation, and I have to say that although it was a very horsey vacation, I think it was the best break I’ve yet to have.
