The start list for the $50,000 Longines Cup at the Hampton Classic was 46 horses long. It included veterans like Beezie Madden and McLain Ward. The jumps are 1.60-meter high. It’s Saturday in the Hamptons, and the crowd is huge.

And who rode away with the win? The 21-year-old young professional Mattias Tromp, on a horse he’s only ridden since April, to boot.

Karen Polle was almost was too stunned for words at the press conference after winning the $250,000 Hampton Classic Grand Prix. “I’m in a little bit of shock right now.  This is definitely the biggest win in my career so it’s very exciting,” the 23-year-old said with a big smile.

The Irish dominated the Hampton Classic yet again in Saturday’s $40,000 Longines Cup. Paul O’Shea guided the Irish-bred stallion Skara Glen's Dolphin to the fastest double clear of the day—scoring a nice paycheck and Longines watch.

After 30 years of service, Steve Stephens has retired from his position as horse show manager for the Hampton Classic Horse Show (N.Y.).

“Steve has played an integral role in the growth of the Hampton Classic into one of the world's most highly regarded horse shows and no words can express the credit he is due,” said Dennis Suskind, president of the Hampton Classic Board of Directors, in a written statement. “His efforts have helped the Classic achieve a position of prominence in the horse show world and we all owe him an incredible debt of gratitude.”
