Horse Death

Irish show jumping rider Kevin Thornton is being accused of abuse after a horse, Flogas Sunset Cruise, died during the GPA Jump Festival CSI** in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France.

The organizers of the competition released a paper statement to other riders at the event on Oct. 10. The competition has banned Thornton from further participation.

Following the tragic death of her horse HHS Cooley in a cross-country fall on July 31 at the Burgham Horse Trials (England), U.S. eventer Liz Halliday-Sharp made a statement about the incident on her Facebook page:

British-based U.S. rider Liz Halliday-Sharp announced on her Facebook page that her four-star horse HHS Cooley was euthanized on July 31 at the Burgham Horse Trials in Morpeth, Northumberland, England, after fracturing a leg on course during the CIC*** cross-country.

Irish rider Eoin McMahon and QuestFinder fell at the water jump while competing at the Grand Prix of Munich CSI*** (Germany). McMahon, 20, was hospitalized, and QuestFinder was euthanized after the fall on May 8.

The 9-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Quintender—Cassandra, Landstreicher) fractured his leg and was euthanized due to his injury.
