Larry Glefke has inspired a new generation of whoopers.

His legendary whoops reverberated throughout the Ocala Horse Properties Stadium at HITS Post Time Farm, so often that a small group of young horse fans who’d congregated on the berms surrounding the arena began anticipating it as soon as Kelley Farmer landed off the final oxer. And they whooped and hollered alongside in grand fashion.

On the way to the last fence in the handy round of the $100,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby Kelley Farmer had one phrase going through her head: Use your better judgment.

Course designer Rian Beals had hiked that oxer up to 4'9" for the handy round and she’d watched Burnistar (Hugh Mutch) lay down a slick trip only to fall from contention when he clicked that pole out of the cups there.

Look out John French. Step aside Jenny Karazissis. You’ve got a new contender in today’s $100,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby during the HITS National Sunshine Circuit II: Lauren Hough.

The Olympian and world No. 31 decided to give this evening’s class a go on a whim aboard Reconnaissance.

Antioch, Ill.—Sept. 6   

Kelley Farmer was on fire at the $50,000 USHJA Chicago International Hunter Derby, and it wasn’t just due to the 91 degree temperatures in Illinois. The powerhouse rider took the top three places, with her super horse Mindful grabbing the top spot, and Dalliance and So To Speak taking second and third, respectively.

Sept. 5—Antioch, Ill. 

It’s a good day to be Tammy Provost, and she knows it. A smile finds its way into every picture snapped of her, whether she’s galloping, jumping or accepting the top ribbon in the $5,000 USHJA Chicago National Derby aboard the bay gelding Essential.

“He’s a sale horse, but we're not too excited to sell him now, because he’s just coming into his own,” Provost said (with, you guessed it, a smile).
