One might think that riding an Olympic horse, or one that had come from a professional, would give a junior rider an edge in any competition. But the Area II junior eventing team—Camilla Grover-Dodge, Morgan Booth, Amanda Beale Clement and Skyler Decker—have had some serious homework to do before earning the top spot after one-star dressage at the Adequan/FEI Junior and Young Rider Championships today.

They’ve had to really put their feet on the gas pedal in order to get their riding in tune and up to par with their mounts.

It all came down to the last rider, and then, the final fence. When Tori Colvin entered the ring for the Young Rider team competition aboard Lumiere as the anchor rider for the combined team from Zones 4/8, there were three different things that could happen. If she went clear, she guaranteed her team the gold at the Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships. If she dropped one rail, Colvin’s team would have to jump off against the combined Zone 3/5 team. If she lowered two fences, her team was dropping to bronze.

$800 is a lot of money for a 13-year-old, but five years later Alexis Nelson is reaping the biggest reward of her investment in her Appaloosa Total Eclipse. They led the victory gallop in the CH-J* at the North American Junior And Young Rider Championships (Ky.) sporting both an individual and team gold medal, holding onto Area II's lead after cross-country.
The Porter brothers shared more than just their gold medals at NAJYRC. Read to find out what else the brothers shared.
