No one was more surprised than Yoshiaki Oiwa himself to learn that his score of 38.1 with Noonday de Conde was the best of the day in the dressage portion of the eventing at the Olympic Games.
At the end of Day 1, Ingrid Klimke slotted into first place aboard Butts Abraxxas (39.3) ahead of Dirk Schrade in second with (39.8).

Denis Lynch, Irish show jumper, filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport to claim a place as an individual rider for Ireland at the Olympic Games. The court ruled to dismiss Lynch's application on July 29.

On July 3, Horse Sport Ireland selected Lynch to compete for an individual medal with Lantinus 3. However, mere days later, Lantinus tested positive for hypersensitivity, disqualifying Lynch from the competition at the Aachen CHIO in Germany.

The United States Equestrian Federation has named the team for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. The four athletes representing the U.S. turned heads at the Para-Equestrian Dressage National Championship and Selection Trial held in Gladstone, N.J., in June.

The following two U.S. team veterans and two rising stars will compose the team:

Rebecca Hart (Unionville, Pa.) and Jessica Ransehousen's Lord Ludger
Jonathan Wentz (Richardson, Texas) and Kai Handt's NTEC Richter Scale
Donna Ponessa (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Wesley Dunham's Western Rose

Eighty-five horses from 22 countries trotted up today, and every horse passed the first inspection, although four were held for re-inspection.
