Sam Griffiths and Happy Times will represent Australia in eventing at the Olympic Games in London. Griffiths was called in to replace Megan Jones and Allofasudden this morning.

Jones was a late addition to the team, added after Shane Jones withdrew Taurus for veterinary reasons on July 22. Allofasudden sustained a soft tissue injury to his left foreleg, according to The Australian.

South African eventer Alexander Peternell will be the sole representative of South Africa at the Olympic Games in London.

Philipp Weishaupt, 27, will have to wait a bit longer to ride in his first Olympic Games for Germany. His mount, Monte Bellini, contracted an infection and was rushed to the veterinary clinic on July 20, according to The Telegraph.

With the 2012 U.S. dressage team now selected, our columnist is already thinking of ways to make the next team even stronger.

Of all sports, I think dressage most resembles life. The seasons are long; defeat is familiar. Repetition eventually, but sometimes painfully slowly, makes you and your horse perform better. It’s not necessarily fun or safe all the time. And just as things start to jell, the preparation feels right, and the goal is in sight, the horse comes up lame.

The Dutch website horses.nl is reporting that Saudi rider Khaled Al Eid’s mount Presley Boy will have to miss the London Olympic Games due to colic. And subsequently, Horse & Hound is reporting that Presely Boy is now battling laminitis.
