Since being named to the U.S dressage team, Laura Graves has utilized some time away from the competition ring to focus on the details with Verdades since trainer Debbie McDonald has been on hand at the farm in Belgium for some last-minute assistance.
Since we last checked in with Kasey Perry-Glass and Goerklintgaards Dublet, they competed at the CDIO***** at Rotterdam (the Netherlands) where the U.S. team finished second in the Nations Cups. The pair was originally slated to ride in the CDI**** at Aachen (Germany), but after some lower than average scores (74.58 percent in the Grand Prix and 71.76 percent in the Special) Perry-Glass elected to skip it and go back to the drawing board.
Clark Montgomery and Loughan Glen traveled from their base in England to The Plains, Va., in early July to compete at the Land Rover U.S. eventing team’s final preparatory outing at the Land Rover Great Meadow International CICO***. They won the division and led the U.S. team to a Nations Cup victory.
After officially making the U.S. Olympic Show Jumping Team with his superstar mare HH Azur on June 29, McLain Ward packed his bags yet again and set off for the prestigious Aachen CHIO in Germany.
After a disappointing observation event at the Rome CSIO, Solem went home for a few days then back to Europe to prepare for their second and final observation event at the Rotterdam CSIO (the Netherlands). There she and VDL Wizard logged two 8-fault rounds in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup, and the U.S. team finished in overall fifth.
When the U.S. show jumping team for the Rio Olympic Games was named, Solem's name wasn't on the list.
The CDIO***** at Rotterdam (the Netherlands) marked the final observation event for those hoping to be named to the dressage team for the Olympic Games. Laura Graves and Verdades led the U.S. team to second behind the Netherlands in the Nations Cup by turning in a 76.30 percent in the Grand Prix for second individually and winning the Grand Prix Special on a 77.31 percent.
The following Monday they were named to the U.S. Dressage Team for their first Olympic Games.
When the U.S. Show Jumping Team for the Rio Olympic Games was named, McLain Ward and HH Azur’s names were on the list, making the fourth consecutive Olympic team on which Ward has served. They will compete alongside Beezie Madden and Cortes ‘C,’ Kent Farrington and Voyeur and Lucy Davis and Barron at Rio in August.
Clark Montgomery and Loughan Glen had one last chance to prove to the U.S. selectors that they were consistent, and they did, competing at the Equi-Trek Bramham Horse Trials (England) on June 8-11, and finishing a very close second in the Event Rider Masters CIC***.
As a result, he and Glen were named to the Olympic team on June 20, along with Phillip Dutton, Lauren Kieffer and Boyd Martin.
