They say those who can’t do teach—not so for U.S. rider Laura Kraut. She does both extremely well, competing at the highest level herself while coaching a small contingent of talented young riders.
It was Kraut’s former student Egyptian rider Nayel Nassar who outpaced Kraut to win the $216,000 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping class at the Palm Beach Masters, beating Kraut by less than a second.

Winning a qualifying class for the grand prix is not that big a deal when you're Ian Millar.
The man holds the record for most Olympic appearances (10 for team Canada), he's won the FEI World Cup Finals twice and has a silver medal from the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong. His nick name is Captain Canada, for crying out loud.
London, England—Dec. 18
Scott Brash became the 15th British rider to come out on top in his home leg of the FEI World Cup™ Jumping series when galloping to victory with Hello M’Lady in the Longines qualifier at Olympia in London.
This was the eighth round of the 2016/2017 Western European League, and the result leaves the 31-year-old rider only a few points short of a qualifying spot for the eagerly-anticipated Longines Final in Omaha, Neb., next March.
All the right decisions, and perhaps a good dose of Las Vegas luck, led Germany’s Christian Heineking to victory in the $100,000 Longines FEI Las Vegas World Cup qualifier.
“It was a great course that was challenging enough,” Heineking said. “I’m very happy. The time was really close and luck was on my side today." Heineking's win came aboard AJE Cluny, a 12-year-old Oldenburg.
The Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping and FEI World Cup™ Dressage Finals for the years 2020 and 2021 and the FEI European Championships 2019 in Jumping, Dressage and Para-Equestrian Dressage were among the key events allocated by the FEI Bureau in Tokyo on Nov. 18.
Following the success of the 2015 Finals, the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping and FEI World Cup™ Dressage Finals will return to Las Vegas in 2020 when the finals will be hosted at a new venue, the MGM Grand Garden Arena on April 15-19.
