McLain Ward has won the World Cup qualifier at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Horse Show in Toronto so many times that the place—the bright lights, the full crowds, the tricky courses, the smell of popcorn in the halls—feels like home for him.
Ward's win in the $130,270 Longines FEI Toronto World Cup qualifier earned him the Hickstead Trophy in honor of Eric Lamaze’s Olympic gold-medal mount.
Calgary, Alberta—Oct. 29
It appeared to be ladies’ night in the fourth leg of the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping North American League Western Sub-League when six of the seven riders to advance to the jump-off were female competitors.
Over the deciding short course, Jenni McAllister and 10-year-old gelding Legis Touch The Sun ultimately proved that a big, scopey horse can excel in a small indoor arena, as they went on to capture the win in the $132,000 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Royal West.
Swiss Olympic show jumper Steve Guerdat announced via his website on Oct. 26 that his winning partner from the 2015 Longines FEI Show Jumping World Cup Final (Nev.), Albfuehren’s Paille, will be retiring to Hofgut Albführen in Germany. She will enter their breeding program.
